Lord of the Rings - Conquest provides an assortment of character classes to accomodate many types of play styles. If you're the kind of player who likes to hang back and pick people off from a distance, than this is your character.
Check out some of these tips and strategies to improve your game:
-
As obvious as this sounds, keep a distance from the main battle. You're pretty much useless at close range.
-
If you do get stuck close to the fight, you do have a melee kick that will knock an opponent down. If you're surrounded though, shoot a fire arrow straight down and this will give you time to get out of danger.
-
You do more damage when zoomed in, and ALOT more damage when you get a headshot off when zoomed in. So sit back from the fight, zoom in and start picking heads off.
-
Healing is the hardest thing you'll have to do. You can't heal yourself, and the orbs that drop from enemies you kill should be far away if you're following the tips above. Every now and then you're going to have to sneak in to pick up some health orbs, or find a friendly mage to throw a heal your way.
-
Use your poison arrows to slow down and injury enemies that are coming toward you.
-
Use your fire arrows an flammable targets, like Ents, for a pyro show and extra damage.
-
Fire arrows are also great for knocking down a group of enemies or knocking someone off a horse.

The new Lord of the Rings game, made by the creators of Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2, brings a fresh new look to the over populated Lord of the Rings gaming world.
Unlike previous Lord of the Rings games, this game is focused more on multiplayer. The single player campaign is still intact and can be played through and enjoyed in a single sitting, but the real meat of the game comes with the online multiplayer.
With the traditional game modes like Deathmatch and Conquest there are two new modes that stand out: Capture the Ring and Ringbearer.
In Capture the Ring, a single ring exists on the map and two opposing sides much capture it and take it to the enemies base. An interesting twist on the traditional single flag capture the flag modes, forcing one team to go to the opposing teams base, and spawn points, is an interesting and action packed twist.
Ringbearer is more of a "fun to mess around with mode" that lets one player be Frodo and everyone else as Wraiths trying to kill him. You get points for being Frodo on a time basis.
The ability to choose which side, good or evil, to play is interesting too. Pandemic Studios has kept with the theme of heroes and allows players to take on the roles of the famous heroes like Gandalf to the not as famous, but equally deadly, Witch King. Playing as a Hero does give you a feeling of super power but appopriately doesn't make you invincible, so watch your step.
Overall this game plays well, involves enough dynamics that a well organized team truely does have an advantage and will keep you interested for awhile. On the downside, this isn't the Roleplaying Game you might be expecting and is more like a Battlefront with swords, nor does it really give you any senese of accomplishment that you might be expecting from an RPG. But thats because its not an RPG..
