Every now and then I take for granted things that seem to just make sense to me. Then I log on and play with a few guys who clearly don’t know their head from their ass…which always creates opportunities to write articles like this.
Lets talk about how to deal with the different kind of Trolls in Too Human. To most people, this should be a review, to others…please keep reading.
Standard Troll
Your Standard Troll is one that has no status effects or big ass tanks on their back, just a big Troll with a club. Defensively, all you need to do is roll out of the way or jump whenever they stomp the ground to avoid the blast wave. To kill a Troll, there are two main ways.
- If you’re a range God, sit back and pick off each limb one at a time. The best way to do this is with a Plasma based weapon with a large Hybrid Radius bonus. Shooting a Troll in the chest with Plasma that explodes into a large radius will generally also damage both of their arms.
- If you’re a melee God, or are fighting a Troll that is immune to range, jump into the Air and perform a Fierce Attack (Push both LS and RS toward the Troll). This will immediately destroy all of his armor if you do it right. Then swing around to behind him and press A to mount that Troll. He will start leaning left, or right, quickly press the LS the opposite direction that he is leaning. When you’re finally balanced with him upright, press forward on the RS and you’ll perform a killing blow.
Trolls with Tanks
The strategy for a Troll with a tank on his back is more or less the same as the Standard Troll. The only exception is that if you intend on mounting the Troll, you need to take out his Tank first. This can be done either with range or melee.
Status Effect Trolls
You’ll know them when you see them. They’ll glow a funny looking color that is very unlike most Trolls.
Blue - Frost, these guys will Freeze you in place, but rarely cause any damage
Yellow - These guys will cause a debuff on you that reduces your armor and resistances…basically if anything else hits you, you’ll probably die.
Orange – Not only will they light you on fire, they’ll explode when they die…so mounting them can be dangerous.
Blueish Purply – Cause a massive slow effect that nothing breaks. Just pray you don’t get hit by this and a swarm of missile goblins at the same time.
Rolling out of the way of their blast effect won’t work, you’ll still get hit by their status effect. So try and kill these type of Trolls ASAP so they don’t interfere with the rest of your work.
That’s it, add any other suggestions to the comments!

If you’ve recently found yourself banging your head against your controller wondering why a game whose controls seem so simple can be so difficult and challenge, welcome to the real Too Human.
By the time you’ve reached level 50 and played a few online games, you’ve started to realize that there are a lot of things in Too Human that can kill you. Even if you have a few Epic pieces, you’ll still find a challenge around every corner.
Fortunately, there are ways to increase your longevity and avoid the dreaded Valkyrie cut scene, not to mention the 2 million plus equipment repair bill.
Armor and Health
Pretty standard stuff here. The more Armor you have, the more damage you’ll absorb. The more Health you have, the more damage you can sustain without a trip to Valhalla.
Dodging
Although it may seem odd that a missile exploding beside you won’t hurt you as long as you curl into a ball and roll out of the way, that’s the truth of it. Stop taking those missiles right in the noggin and simply roll away. This also works for Troll stomps.
The only thing this doesn’t do is cause you to avoid status effects. So if a Troll has a Slow effect, you might escape the damage from the stomp, but the effect will still hit you. Jumping will help you avoid both, but don’t try jumping into oncoming missiles…I’ve made that mistake one too many times.
Resistances
Not all attacks are equal. It’s a good idea to get familiar with what kind of damage each type of mob in Too Human causes.
Goblins cause Slash Damage.
Dark Elves cause Piercing Damage.
Trolls cause Blunt Damage.
Undead cause Blunt Damage.
So what does this all mean? Well if you find yourself fighting in Helheim against the Undead often, it’s generally a good idea to try and max out your Blunt Resistance. The same applies for Dark Elves and Piercing Resistance. Increase the proper resistances or even having multiple sets of gear depending on the situation, will help you negate a lot of incoming damage and increase the likelihood you’ll survive the encounter.
AOE Defensive Charms
Try equipping and activating charms that will do Area of Effect (AOE) procs. For instance, I use the Gravity Well Charm combined with an EMP Pulse Charm. This does two things, if I’m causing a whack of hits, chances are a Gravity Well will open up and suck everyone up…boom I lived with very little effort! If that doesn’t proc, and I start getting hit, my EMP pulse will go off stunning everyone around me and allowing me to make a quick withdrawal.
Think of different combinations to suit your style and you’ll be rocking any level you want in no time.
